| The EPSMA is currently active in a number of key areas
of benefit to its members and the European power supply industry as
a whole. The main areas currently are as follows:
European Legislation / Standards - The
EPSMA is involved in lobbying CENELEC and the European Commission
with regard to the development and implementation of legislation
which has an impact on the power supply industry in Europe. It is
also involved in interpreting existing legislation such as 89/336/EEC,
the Electromagnetic Compatibility
Directive. and EN 61000-3-2 on power factor correction (PFC).
The EPSMA has a dedicated Technical Committee which reviews standards
issues and liaises directly with CENELEC and the IEC.
International Legislation / Standards –
EPSMA continues to develop strategic links with international organisations
to monitor and take a pro-active role in international standards.
Most recently, members of the EPSMA Technical Committee have been
elected (together with members of the American PSMA) to the Board
Mounted Power Supply Reference group of the High Density Packaging
User Group Organisation (HDPUG). HDPUG is lobbying on various standards
relating to the use of lead, and recycling in electronics, and EPSMA
has an important role in ensuring the interests of the power supply
community are represented.
Technical Conferences - The EPSMA Technical
Committee undertakes numerous projects, the results of which are
designed to offer impartial advice to power supply manufacturers
and their customers on complex technical issues. As part of this
work, EPSMA members give substantial time and effort to prepare
and present papers for conferences such as PCIM.
Student Vacation Employment
Programme -- In order to promote the power supply industry and
analogue / power design within the student community in Europe,
the EPSMA runs various student programmes. These include international
work experience placements and assistance with final year degree
projects. Click here to visit
the student page and view the current programmes offered.
Many other activities are also tackled by the organisation including
developing closer relations with universities specialising in power
electronics around Europe, joint qualification of components, etc.
