In an industry first, Ericsson’s BMR453 series of DC/DC converters uses a digital control platform contained within the modules themselves. By integrating more into the control circuitry, the concept frees up real estate for greatly improving the power density, simultaneously offered unprecedented levels of control.

TI introduces 52-V boost controller for industrial and battery-powered systems (June 2008)

DALLAS (June 17, 2008) – Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced today a 4.5V to 52V wide-input voltage boost controller, intended for industrial and battery-powered applications where the output is a regulated current instead of a regulated voltage. In addition, TI launched two integrated low-dropout (LDO) regulators with internal protection circuits that simplify power design for industrial systems.

Ericsson 1/8th brick DC/DC converter offers 1/4 brick performance for downsizing and upgrading (June 2008)

Compared to existing products available on the market, the output power of Ericsson Power Modules’ eighth-brick PKB-B DC/DC converter is considerably higher. This is an important benefit when customers are looking for higher power in a smaller packaging than traditional quarter-brick, or to achieve higher power from a standard eight-brick when upgrading boards for higher performance.

TI intermediate bus PWM controller increases energy efficiency over entire load range (May 2008)

DALLAS (May 27, 2008) – Building on its portfolio of advanced pulse-width modulator (PWM) power management controllers, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) introduced today a power supply controller for unregulated output voltages that achieves up to 97 percent system efficiency in an intermediate bus architecture. The controller allows intermediate bus architecture power systems to combine the highest amount of energy savings, high power-density and low system costs in telecom and data communication systems with multiple downstream point-of-load conversions.

Slim MiniLine Power Supplies with 15W Output Power from PULS (April 2008)

For low-power requirements, PULS added three new units to the MiniLine DIN-rail power supply family. With a nominal width of only 22.5 mm, three different output voltages are available; ML15.051 (5V), ML15.121 (12-15V) and ML15.241 (24-28V).

Lambda Europe has announced that its HWS series of high-quality industrial power supplies now comes with a lifetime warranty as standard, a “first” in the industry. The reliability of Lambda’s flagship HWS series has been field proven with a negligible return rate since it’s original introduction (with a 5 year warranty) several years ago. The full range of models from 15W to 1500W, including “HD” heavy duty and “ME” medically approved versions are covered provided they are installed and used in accordance with Lambda’s instruction manual.

Lambda shows its full power at Southern Electronics (December 2007)

Lambda UK is showcasing an extensive display of new products, ranging from tiny board-mounting DC-DC converters to multi-kilowatt power supplies, at Southern Electronics 2008. On display in the UK for the first time is the iQE series of quarter-brick DC-DC converters. With a broad range of output voltages from 3.3 to 15V, this series is rated at up to 204W and offered with two input voltage ranges – either 18V to 36V or 36V to 75V. Ericsson dual output DC/DC converters are drop-ins for earlier MacroDens modules and have floating dual outputs for versatility (April 2007)

Expanding its highly successful MacroDens portfolio of DC/DC modules, Ericsson Power Modules has released three PKR modules aimed primarily at powering telecom and datacom transmission systems requiring floating dual outputs, such as line cards and optical transmitters. Similarly, the PKR will also power a wide range of applications in instrumentation and process control that use analogue logic and communication chipsets. With their floating design, the devices’ dual outputs can also be configured in series, making them suitable for feeding many other applications (for example, 24V output).

24V/10A DC-UPS with only one 12V battery (February 2007)

PULS has developed a totally new DC-UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) which requires only one 12V battery to buffer 24Vdc. To eliminate the need for two batteries connected in series the developers from PULS integrated firmware along with a unique circuit into the DC-UPS to boost the 12V battery voltage up to 24V. Smart semiconductors replace non-intelligent discrete components, therefore the need for the second battery is eliminated and the battery performance is maximized. The firmware runs a series of logical test on the battery and makes adjustments to maintain the constant output under all conditions.

Space-saving 120W external power supply for medical applications features Class I and Class II approvals

XP Power has announced a medically approved, compact 120W power supply for medical and other portable applications where high isolation and low leakage current specifications are required. The AMM120 is offered with both Class I (with earth) and Class II (no earth) AC inputs. Class II inputs are commonly required in medical equipment because the reliability of earth connections cannot be guaranteed in all locations in which portable devices may be used. COTS military and avionics DC/DC converters cut costs and time-to-market

XP Power has announced the MTC, a series of 4W to 35W DC/DC converters designed as a standard product family exclusively for defence and avionics applications. Low profile 400W AC/DC switcher fits in 1U high apparatus

XP Power has announced the SMM400 series, a family of 400W AC/DC switching power supplies that enable more power to be delivered in an industry-standard 1U high enclosure. Most 1U units are limited to around 250W but this new power supply, which has power densities of up to 0.38 Watts per cubic cm, meets demand for higher power within a given space. The low profile units come in 24 standard models -19 single-output and 5 dual-output versions - and carry agency approvals for communications, IT, industrial and medical applications.
