Notes from the Chair

It's good to see Spring in full swing now with so many changes in the air, and with vacations for us all to look forward to. There have been changes at the secretariat as well - Paul Lee has stepped back in to the secretariat role temporarily until a new candidate takes over later in the year. Our apologies to members who have not received the service from the EPSMA over the last months that they should expect. This is now being corrected and the future is exciting, with a new member Enedo joining, progress being made on important new studies by the Technical Committee and the EPSMA 'voice' being heard by the IEC in our objections to proposed regulatory changes.

The second 2025 EPSMA management committee meeting was held on the 13th May and was well attended - details are shown on the right.

Upcoming Events

EPSMA MC meeting 13th May 2025

  • Fourteen EPSMA member attendees by conference call
  • A proposed new candidate for the secretariat position, Alan Hill, was accepted unanimously, starting later in the year
  • The EPSMA has been invited to attend the IEC TC108 general meeting in New Delhi in September to discuss the proposed changes to disallow derating of AC-DCs at low mains in safety testing, affecting standards such as IEC 62368-1 and IEC 61010-2-201
  • The EPSMA has been made aware of upcoming draft changes to EMC standard IEC 61204-3. First looks show no major changes, but EPSMA members are reviewing for any impact. This power supply-specific standard is welcome as an alternative to the more generic standards applied.
  • The Technical Committee report good progress in work on a paper to propose standardisation for the calculation of the carbon footprint of power supply products as a benefit to manufacturers and end users. A questionnaire has been sent to EPSMA members to collect information on methods currently used. TC work is also ongoing relating to an EMC standard specification guide and a publication on the effects and implications of the Cyber Resilience Act.
  • One new member application was approved, and two others were refused.
