Notes from the Secretariat
This is the Spring newsletter but the weather has other ideas, at least in the UK. Hopefully warmer times will come soon and in 2024 will see resolution of some global problems.
EPSMA MC meeting Feb 6th 2024
The management committee meeting held in Munich kindly hosted by PULS in February was the best attended on record with 23 members, either in person or calling in.
We also had two representatives from the EC calling in to discuss their proposed changes to eco-design regulation EU 2019/1782 to require a minimum lifetime for external power supplies. EPSMA members and Rolf Winter from ZVEI gave some recommendations detailed in documents in the website members' area and emphasised some difficulties that might be seen policing the requirement.
Another regulatory issue debated was the proposal by IEC committee TC108 to disallow derating of AC-DCs at low mains voltages. This will affect many manufacturers adversely and the EPSMA along with ZVEI has set up a working group to urgently respond to the IEC with objections. The change would be immediate and will affect IEC 62368-1 and IEC 61010-1 certifications as a minimum.
Full details of the discussions are in the meeting minutes posted in the EPSMA website members area.
The meeting also ratified the appointment of a new secretariat manager - Jonathan Pieterse, to replace Paul lee who is stepping back from the post. Jonathan can be contacted at jonathan.pieterse@epsma.org
The EPSMA will co-host and present a webinar on the EPSMA paper 'Overvoltage categories and their implication in the design of power supplies'. The webinar is now set for March 12th and registration is open at
