- Membership fees
Notes from the Secretariat - Alan Hill
The management committee met via conference call on 8th September, with ten managers present. We welcomed Francesco Di Domenico as a new manager representative from Infineon. Francesco replaces Mr Josef Daimer, who retires in September. We thank him for his contributions to the association.
For much of 2026 a working group comprising a number of the managers has been drafting a response to a CENELEC proposal to disallow the de-rating of a product’s power output, where it is declared, in the -10% margin applied to the AC input during type testing to IEC62368-1. It has become common practise to publish a power de-rating in the user instructions, for AC input <100Vac, specifically to accommodate this type test.
Our submission is now officially available on the IEC website and the project continues as we state our case to the national committees in Germany, Slovenia and the UK.
A similar initiative is in progress to update IEC61010-1 and its subsidiary standard -2-201. A ‘call to action’ amongst our membership has produced a large response, with the re-focussed working group meeting on 27th October to consider our response.
After ten years with a static fee, member companies will see an increase of £150 to the membership renewal at the beginning of the calendar year. Our budget will increase only modestly, but this will provide the management committee with flexibility to explore new opportunities and absorb rising costs in all areas.
Technical Committee Activities
Progress on a stalled project: “EMI standards and their implication in the specification of power supplies”, has been re-activated now that the project champion is available to continue leading the working group. We look forward to the publication of their output.
Progress continues on a publication: “Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) EU 2024/2847 implications for Power Products.
A rare opportunity to bring the Technical and Management Committees together, will be exploited in November in Munich. Our AGM and a TC meeting will take place during the period of the Electronica exhibition, where many of our member companies will be represented. We are expecting more than twenty of our representatives to renew acquaintances across the industry and forge new ones, through this rare opportunity to meet in-person.
Minutes of our meetings are available in the website member’s area.
